It is a great way to improve air quality, moisture issues etc. 6  mil Vapor Barrier however has stood the test of time for many years. A properly installed vapor or moisture barrier has been around in the neighborhood of 100 years and Vapor Barriers are awesome if installed properly.  Please don’t take this the wrong way,  An complete Encapsulation is very effective however it truly isn’t necessary to keep moisture out of your Crawl Space. An Encapsulation of your Crawl Space is expensive and it is a great system if you have a home especially in Sandy Soils with poor Drainage in the Southeastern areas of North and South Carolina. Areas Such as Brunswick County, New Hanover County and Horry County are susceptible to excessive moisture, Mold, Mildew etc. The sandy soils around Wilmington, Leland, Sunset Beach, Calabash, Boiling Springs Lakes, Supply, Southport and surrounding areas are very susceptible and have poor drainage and often bad storms. The things that residences in these areas do not understand is not only the ground cannot observe the moisture content that can and will at  some point be present in theses areas. There are several ways to deal with the drainage and moisture issues in these areas. One an exterior french drainage system or french drainage channels to divert water and moisture away from the home in a gravity fed system if the particular property allows you to do so.  Typically however clients in these areas will have to divert the water or drainage into a float operated sump pump system or catch basin which requires wiring, plumbing a catch basin etc. It takes a lot of experience to learn how water flows as well as how to divert water properly.
